Path Studies for Information Technology

Pathway studies refer to the first-year courses of degree programs that are taken at an open university of applied sciences according to the curriculum, in the same group as degree students. The extent of the studies is 15 ECTS credits in master’s degree programs and they are mainly completed within one academic year.

Registration for Pathway Studies

The pathway study program consists of two parts. With this product card, you can register for the first part of the pathway studies. You will receive the right to study for the first semester, during which you will complete about half of the pathway study program.

  • To complete the entire path study module (50 credits), you need to register and pay for the second part of the path studies as well.
    The total price of the study module is 300 €, and you will pay it in two parts (parts 1 and 2 separately, 150 €/part).
  • After the path studies, you can apply to become a degree student through Separate Admission.
  • Being accepted as a degree student requires the completion of both parts of the path studies, i.e., a total of 50 credits/300 €.
    Cancellation terms
  • After completing the pathway studies, you can apply to become a degree student through the separate application process. We will send you information by email when registration for the second part is possible.

Cancellation Terms

  • If for some reason you are unable to participate in the studies, please notify us as soon as possible. It is absolutely essential to cancel your participation in time so that the spot can be given to someone on the waiting list.
  • You can cancel your registration within 14 days of registering, before the start of the studies, by notifying us at verkkokauppa@vamk.fi. For cancellations made later, half of the annual fee will be charged. The paid study fee is a prerequisite for participation in the studies and for maintaining the right to study.

Content of the Program

As a path student, you will study the Information Technology degree programme for one academic year, which means that you study the first year of your degree programme according to the curriculum. Path studies enable graduation just as quickly as by starting directly in degree studies. Path studies do not require any specific basic education and you can study even if you do not have the basic education required for university studies.

The degree programme in Information Technology prepares you for demanding careers in the industry. You gain professional skills and a strong theoretical basis that are much needed in the rapidly changing environment. Our cooperation with the working life gives you good possibilities for taking part in projects with the local industry throughout your studies. You also have great exchange possibilities all over the world.

  • You will study at the same pace as the degree students’ group.
  • The content of the education follows the curriculum of Vaasa University of Applied Sciences.
  • The studies you complete will be credited towards your degree later on.

Mode of Implementation

In the day program, teaching and guidance mainly take place on campus during weekdays and daytime hours. The studies also include independent study, potentially some flexible online courses, and practical training periods as outlined in the curriculum.
