Technobothnia Research Centre is a technical research and teaching laboratory shared by VAMK, Novia University of Applied Sciences and the University of Vaasa. A former cotton factory was renovated to meet the requirements of state-of-the-art technology. There the students of technology can get acquainted with the latest innovations of their field and take part in projects executed in cooperation with businesses. In addition to education, the modern facilities, equipment, software and methods also significantly contribute to the research and product development of the businesses in the region.
Botnia RoboCup Team is a robot soccer project in which challenging problems of software, telecommunications and electronics are solved and several different techniques are combined. Traditional teaching prevents discussions on problems of this scale. Therefore, VAMK has developed a continuous project which is carried out under the guidance of teachers. The team is formed by Finnish students of information technology and mechanical engineering along with foreign students who study information technology in English. All teaching and activities are carried out in English. This way the students acquire the knowledge of a language and skills, like multiculturalism and project work, that are necessary in their future engineering professions.
