Project description
Finland’s wind power capacity grew by as much as 75% in 2022, reaching almost 17% of total electricity generation, and the growth shows no sign of abating. In the future, the wind power sector will need more and more experts for design, construction and maintenance tasks. The wind energy sector is growing rapidly and there is currently a particular need for technical skills. The free online wind energy training programme jointly organised by Turku and Vaasa Universities of Applied Sciences will help to meet the growing demand for skills in the wind energy sector.
Goals
The Universities of Applied Sciences of Turku and Vaasa are launching a joint free-of-charge training programme in wind energy to meet the skills needs created by the positive structural change in the wind energy sector. The training will be work-based and can be completed alongside work. The training will consist of eight different modules, the first of which will start in March 2024. The training will be conducted flexibly online, making it possible to participate from anywhere in Finland. The training is free of charge for participants.
Results
The project will result in the development of skills and expertise in the wind energy sector. The training will meet the needs of working life and increase the workforce in the regions of Lapland and Ostrobothnia, where 83% of wind farm investments will be located.
