Project description
Batteries are a key part of future sustainable energy solutions and self-reliance, especially in transport, but also as support for the electricity grid in electrifying Finland. TEM outlines in its battery strategy that Finland has good opportunities to become a key player in the electrification of transport. However, this will not happen without a skilled workforce. Battery training in Finland is currently focused on universities and universities of applied sciences, but the vast majority of the new battery industry’s workforce comes from vocational schools
Goals
The purpose of this project is to create an innovative training package aimed at vocational school teachers and companies, which aims to spread awareness and teach about the battery industry. The training package includes a 1-2 day intensive package, which consists of lectures, exercises, tasks and a practical exercise, where e.g. a really functional lithium ion battery is manufactured.
Results
The result is the concrete introduction of battery know-how to vocational schools and SMEs. The project also promotes the development of VAMK’s service business, which in the future will play an increasingly important role in the financing of universities of applied sciences. There are no similar battery training packages in Finland that are based on practice and provide training in the battery industry in general. Companies are able to train their employees about the battery industry (e.g. manufacturing, safety, use and recycling) and proactively train vocational school teachers, following the future development of the battery industry.
