VAMK hosted international days and publishes a Special Issue on Internationalisation
Vaasa University of Applied Sciences hosted the International Days on October 1-3, 2024. The theme of the event was sustainable development, with a focus on shared commitment to broader societal responsibility and impact, where universities of applied sciences play a key role.
The International Days at VAMK were attended by teaching and administrative staff from higher education institutions in Germany, Denmark, and Austria. During the three-day event, participants enjoyed interesting lectures on topics related to sustainable development, and they had the opportunity to create practical tools for the development of their own work through hands-on workshops. Additionally, international guests gave several thought-provoking guest lectures for VAMK students.
The program also included visits to local sustainable initiatives. At Wärtsilä’s premises, participants got a glimpse of how sustainable practices can be applied in real-world scenarios. During a tour of the Technobothnia research and teaching laboratory, guests explored the various facilities of the most modern educational lab in the Nordic countries, including the robotics laboratory.
“During these days, it has been wonderful to discuss sustainable development and to realise how this current topic affects all of us, even on an international level. There are many challenges, but through collaboration, we can also find solutions,” says Head of International Affairs Tuija Tammi and continues:
“We are also pleased that our students have had the opportunity to attend interesting guest lectures and workshops, thus gaining a small taste of internationalisation at home.”
The visitors also had the chance to experience the nature of Vaasa and its surrounding areas. Naturally, the sauna and good food were memorable highlights of the event.
Publication of the Special Issue in Internationalisation
During the International Days, VAMK also launched the Special Issue in Internationalisation, a collection of articles celebrating the thematic year of internationalisation. The publication presents a diverse range of articles exploring key aspects of international education from innovative student recruitment strategies to fostering global partnerships.
