Up to nearly 100 applicants per study place in VAMK’s popular degree program

Approximately 5 000 applications were submitted to Vaasa University of Applied Sciences in the national joint application. The degree program in Energy Technology, conducted in English in particular attracted applicants once again.

A focus on career and internship opportunities

Vaasa University of Applied Sciences seems particularly attractive among international applicants. In recent years, VAMK has made significant efforts to increase its appeal to foreign students.

“We invest in brand visibility, particularly in our strategically selected target countries, where we collaborate with Team Finland and Business Finland. Our goal is to attract motivated applicants who, in addition to succeeding in their studies, see Finland as an excellent place to build their careers after graduation,” say Sirpa Rutanen, Head of Communications and Marketing and Juha Vierola, Head of Student Services, who are responsible for developing international student recruitment.

During their studies, students have access to a variety of career services at VAMK. Companies based in the Vaasa region play a crucial role in student employment, where many students find internships and potentially even job opportunities after graduation. Based on a recent career survey by VAMK, 86% of those who graduated in 2022 had worked since graduation and 83% work in the field corresponding their degree.

“Vaasa, with over 180 companies in the energy technology sector alone, is an excellent choice for both Finnish and international applicants interested in an international work environment in areas such as exports, energy technology, and wellbeing. We are doing our part to enhance Vaasa’s appeal as a desirable place to live and work in the future,” tells Rutanen.

The results of student selections will be announced by November 21, 2024, and study places must be accepted by November 28 at 3:00 PM.
