Reflecting on responsible consumption on campus

A Sustainability Day was held at the Palosaari campus on March 26, 2025, in collaboration with various service providers operating on campus and other partners. Throughout the day, students were offered useful information about responsible everyday consumption.

Participants in the event included Juvenes, which operates Aleres and Serveri restaurants at VAMK, as well as SOL Services, which is responsible for campus cleaning, Lindström, and Velimark. These organisations showcased their sustainability efforts and provided students with advice on responsible practices. Also Stormossen, the waste management company of the Vaasa region, was present and guided students on waste sorting and recycling. The City of Vaasa introduced students to its Mini-Lifti shared cars.

“The idea of the day was to encourage students and staff to reflect on their own role in sustainability,” says Katja Lakojoki-Karhu, VAMK’s Quality and Sustainability Manager and continues,

“It’s important to consider how we, both individually and together, can contribute to sustainable development and the realisation of responsibility.”
