At Campus Day 1600 high school students explored the Palosaari campus
The Campus Day event, organised jointly by Vaasa University of Applied Sciences and the University of Vaasa on November 7, attracted 1,600 high school and vocational students from Vamia to the Palosaari campus. Students travelled to Vaasa from across the West Coast, from Kokkola to Pori, and from South Ostrobothnia as far as Ähtäri.
During the joint Campus Day of VAMK and the University of Vaasa, secondary school students had a comprehensive opportunity to explore higher education studies across various fields. The students’ strong interest in well-being was evident, and in particular, the tours of the social and health care teaching and simulation facilities at Vaasa University of Applied Sciences were extremely popular.
These tours gave high school and vocational students a firsthand look at what studying in the social and health care sector entails. For instance, participants had a chance to see how teaching takes place in an operating room setting.
A visit to the state of the art Technobothnia teaching and research laboratories in technology was also a hit among the students. Presentations on business studies and sample lectures in business administration and information systems were well-attended and sparked considerable interest.
“Collaborating with the University of Vaasa makes organising such a large event much smoother for both of us,” comments Satu Aaltonen, VAMK’s communications specialist who coordinated the event on VAMKs part.
Throughout the day, high school students arrived at the Palosaari campus from across Ostrobothnia, South and Central Ostrobothnia, and Satakunta. Additionally, about 150 vocational students from Vaasa attended Campus Day.
“The high turnout at Campus Day shows that young people are keenly interested in their future, and Vaasa is seen as a viable and appealing university city,” says Sirpa Rutanen, Head of Communications and Marketing.
